The Office of Tax Simplification (or OTS for short) has launched a review into the complexity of the current Inheritance Tax legislation.
The OTS is the body established to review and recommend ways to simplify the UK taxation system. In 2009, a whopping 11,520 pages were estimated to make up UK taxation legislation.
The OTS has asked for evidence and for people to complete an online survey to gauge the public’s experience and perceptions of inheritance tax, in particular the complexity of the rules and processes.
The survey can be found here and invites individual members of the public, as opposed to professionals, to comment on their understanding and experience of inheritance tax.
The survey closes on 8 June 2018 and a report is expected in Autumn 2018.
