After two years of exams, I am pleased to say that I have finally qualified as a full member of the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners (STEP)!
In order to attain full STEP membership, and therefore be able to call oneself a ‘TEP’, one needs to complete a Certificate and a Diploma in trusts and estates. These cover a range of topics, from basic estate and trust administration, to the taxation of trusts and more complicated inheritance tax reliefs.
I decided to complete a Specialist Diploma in Will Preparation, and therefore swapped a module covering accounting for trusts and estates for an Advanced Certificate in Will Preparation.
With STEP under my belt, I am now well on my way to tackling the ATT/CIOT Tax Pathway. This time next summer I hope to be ATT qualified, and in the next few years a fully fledged Chartered Tax Advisor. Watch this space!
P.S. I make no apologies for the terrible pun in the title!
