On Friday 22 February, HMG Law was proud to host the Oxfordshire networking and support meeting for Dementia Friends Champions & Communities at its office in central Oxford.
Organised by Ellie Marcus, the Dementia Friends Regional Support Office for the South Central region, the event brought together 16 local professionals and volunteers who either work with, or have committed to helping, people living with dementia and their families.
Attendees included several local Dementia Friends Champions volunteers as well as representatives from Dementia Oxfordshire (which is a local partnership between the charities Age UK Oxfordshire, Guideposts and Young Dementia UK), Millers Grange care home in Witney, Cherwell District Council, city councillors at Oxford City Council and lawyers at HMG Law specialising in the field of Will, Powers of Attorney and mental incapacity.
Ellie gave the attendees updates on the Dementia Friends initiative, provided training on resources available to Champions to help them with the delivery of the free information sessions and facilitated group discussions about the services available in Oxfordshire to help to support people living with dementia.
The afternoon was a valuable opportunity for people to share their experiences and gain a greater awareness and understanding of the dementia-support services and groups operating in the locally.
Dementia Oxfordshire’s aim is to be alongside people living with dementia and their families from the moment of diagnosis, ensuring that they have the information, advice and support they need to live as fully and happily as possible in their local community.
