Frank is HMG’s resident expert Director of Tax Planning, having worked here for 14 years, before which he was partner at a substantial Oxford firm of Chartered Accountants.
He is one of those people who actually genuinely loves tax, specialising in all areas of tax planning, from assisting with individuals’ tax returns to minimising the impact of inheritance tax, capital gains tax and income tax; negotiating with HMRC on undeclared tax affairs, managing trusts, and giving high-level advice on international taxation. He particularly likes solving tax problems for academics, farmers, landowners and property investment companies, whilst his international expertise includes dealing with non-UK residents and those with an Overseas Domicile.
Frank is proactive, prepared, and highly trusted. He prides himself on a fast and efficient service, and makes it his mission to go the extra mile and engage with a client’s whole family (including where relevant, the family business). As a result of this – and the real difference his advice makes to peoples’ lives – many clients come to regard him as a genuine friend of the family.
Frank enjoys this genuine contact with clients, relishes any challenge to save people tax, and likes “the intellectual stimulus of keeping up to date and solving different problems every day”. He loves the team at HMG, as well as the joy of being based in Oxford, of which he never tires. “It is a still pleasure to work here amongst such beautiful buildings and nice people. After 40 years I still get a thrill walking down St. Giles in the morning.”
Frank is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, former National President of Association of Tax Technicians, Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and a member of STEP and the Institute of Fiscal Studies. He is also heavily involved in charities including the Oxford Bus Museum and Woodstock Probus Club, is Treasurer of the Woodstock Exhibition Foundation and is Woodstock’s official Mace Bearer. In rare moments of relaxation, he enjoys travelling and history.
