Alexandra Smith

Associate Solicitor

Direct line: 01869 255272

Alexandra is a knowledgeable and sensitive Associate Solicitor who joined HMG’s Family Department in 2017, having trained and practised previously at two other esteemed Oxfordshire firms.  She specialises in family law, acting for clients in divorce and dissolution proceedings, financial settlements, applications involving children, specific issue applications, prohibited steps orders, non-molestation orders, occupation orders and pre- and post-nuptial agreements.

Regarded as kind, considerate, approachable and knowledgeable, Alexandra prides herself on spending time getting to know her clients at a very emotional and distressing point in their life: “You need to understand what they need from you so you can work out how best to help. Once you understand their needs and issues you can explain how we can support them through a difficult time and apply the law to assist them.” She takes a pragmatic, sensitive approach, “being patient, honest and realistic, setting expectations at the start of the matter. If you cannot gain your clients trust from the outset then the professional relationship has broken down.”

Her clients certainly appreciate this pragmatism, thanking her for her “professional yet friendly service.” “Nothing has been too much trouble for you even when you had to explain certain things numerous times. You have made my divorce much easier to cope with and I thank you for that. I will not hesitate to recommend you to anyone seeking legal advice”.

Alexandra particularly enjoys working at HMG: “It’s a small firm where everyone matters. Employees matter and clients matter. You will always be treated as a person and never just a number. A client will always be provided with their solicitor’s direct number, and we are based in the town and city centre so clients can drop in when they need to.”

Alexandra is also a member of Resolution (a body committed to a non-confrontational approach to family matters). When she’s not assisting clients, she throws herself into socialising, the gym, baking, and travelling.

Navigating a client through the difficult break down of their relationship and seeing them at the end with their future ahead of them is extremely satisfying. I always advise that there is light at the end of the tunnel – tomorrow is a new day and a blank sheet of paper."
