RWK Goodman has confirmed it is to acquire Oxfordshire’s oldest law firm HMG LAW in a deal that increases its leading expertise and capacity within the wider Thames Valley region.

The firm will acquire HMG LAW, noted for its private client, property and family law expertise in the wider Thames Valley and with a well-documented heritage dating back almost two hundred years, on 31 January 2026, providing clients with access to an expanded range of private and commercial law services.

Staff from HMG LAW’s Oxford and Bicester offices will integrate with RWK Goodman’s Oxford office at Minns Business Park from February, with ongoing client service to remain unaffected during the merge.

Paul Daniels, managing partner of RWK Goodman, said: “It is a pleasure to welcome HMG LAW to RWK Goodman and further expand our leading capabilities and prominence within the Thames Valley. We look forward to working with their accomplished teams and their clients to support their professional aspirations and legal needs going forward.

“This marks a strong step in our overall strategic ambition of growing sustainably and at speed by bringing on those who are firmly aligned with our core values and commitment to client quality, and HMG LAW are a great partner in this respect.”

Gary Baker, senior partner at HMG LAW, said: “HMG LAW’s strong reputation for excellence within Oxford and the wider Thames Valley is a perfect fit with RWK Goodman’s commitment to building a sustainable business that supports current and next generation private and business clients in the region. We look forward to working with RWK Goodman to deliver a seamless combination of our businesses over the coming weeks and months.”

The acquisition supports RWK Goodman’s wider strategy to continue its rapid period of growth and recognition for its market-leading expertise and capabilities within the Thames Valley and nationally, with an aim of achieving turnover of £100m by 2030. The firm is currently on course to achieve this, marking more than 26 per cent growth across the last two financial years.

Chris Wilson, partner in the firm’s Private Client team in Oxford who previously worked at HMG LAW, said: “Integrating HMG LAW into RWK Goodman means we are bringing in a regionally leading team with strong expertise and connections in the areas of private client, property and family law which truly complements our existing practice. We will be working to ensure smooth continuity for clients coming across while ensuring they have access to a broader and deeper level of support and service within the Thames Valley that is capable of handling the most complex and intricate of matters.”
